Register now for the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at FireShowsReno

RENO, NV
– The community is invited to join FireShowsReno firefighters and climb 110 flights of stairs at Atlantis Casino Resort Spa to pay tribute to the 343 firefighters who died on 9/11/01. The climb begins at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014, and benefits the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF).

Participants will climb a stairwell multiple times for a total of 110 stories, representing the number of floors in the Twin Towers. Bagpipers will be present at the starting line to send off the first climbers – firefighters who will be dressed in turnout gear. At the beginning of the climb, each participant will receive the photo of one of the fallen heroes of Sept. 11.

“The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is an opportunity for local firefighters and the community to demonstrate respect and show admiration for the courageous men and women who gave their lives. We want to be sure that each of those firefighters is represented by someone climbing the stairwell of the Atlantis,” said Jo Anne Hill, FireShowsReno organizer. FireShowsReno is a conference and expo held annually in Reno, NV at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center for firefighters and first responders in the 10 Western states.

There is a $30 fee per person for the event, and all proceeds will benefit NFFF’s support of FDNY’s Counseling Services Unit. NFFF’s mission is to honor and remember America's fallen fire heroes and to provide resources to assist their survivors in rebuilding their lives. NFFF’s mission also includes working within the fire service community to reduce firefighter deaths and injuries. Registration is open at http://www.firehero.org/event/stairclimb14-reno/.
