The Health Benefits of Detoxing

Spa Atlantis Team | August 2018

The phrase “detox” or “cleanse” is thrown around so often that one might think it’s merely a fad. But in actuality, detoxing has been around for quite some time, even back to the 1800s according to some scholars. Have you ever wondered about detoxing and the benefits it could have on your body? Let’s explore.

What is detoxification?

• Detoxification is a type of alternative medicine treatment which aims to rid the body of unspecified "toxins" – accumulated substances that proponents claim has undesirable short-term or long-term effects on individual health.

What are the benefits of detoxing?

• Some studies show that detoxing can increase concentration and focus. They say that by ridding your body of free radicals and chemical build up that your brain can function better, increasing your ability to concentrate and focus.

• Newfound energy: Detoxing helps the liver to work more efficiently and increases oxygen in the blood giving you more energy.

• Visible change in your skin complexion: your skin is the largest organ in your body, so flushing out the toxins is important.

How can you detox in a spa setting?

• Facials help detox and rid impurities from the skin. We recommend the oxygen facial which features the super antioxidant and essential nutrient Coenzyme Q10 which has been proven to minimize wrinkles and prevent photo aging of the skin. This facial helps brighten and clear the skin while increasing its natural barrier function.

Pantai Luar - This Eastern Asian service helps improve the look, tone, and texture through what is known as cellular rejuvenation as heated sachets filled with Asian herbs and spices soak in exotic Asian oil and are applied to the skin. The appearance of your skin improves immediately as the oils and extra massage release nutrients deep into your skin.

Bliss antioxidant wrap - This antioxidant body wrap is focused on environmental damage and premature aging. A wine grape infused sugar scrub gently buffs away the dead skin cells before your body is painted with an antioxidant wine grape mask. Allow the nutrients from the mask to penetrate the skin as you’re provided with a face and neck massage while you float weightless in our Soft Pack bed. You will leave the service glowing, radiant, and refined.

Detoxing doesn’t always have to mean a diet cleanse or an extreme juice diet; it can also mean a way to reconnect with your inner mind and spirit, and through the treatments recommended above, you too can experience the benefits of a spa detox.

7 Tips For Keeping Your Hair Healthy This Summer

Spa Atlantis Team | July 2018

It’s the season to let go of polished perfect hair and embrace your natural locks. After all, who wants to stand under a blow dryer when it’s nearing 100 outside? Here are some tips on keeping your hair looking cool when the thermometer is on the rise.

1. Slip on a hat or colorful scarf when you are in the sun. As well as being stylish, both can protect your scalp from harsh sun rays. It also protects color treated hair.

2. Put your hair up in a loose style bun or loose braid. Loose hairstyles can minimize sun exposure. Tight styles pull on the hair and may tear it especially during the summer as your hair tends to be dryer.

3. Wash your locks less. Frequent washing strips your hair of its natural oils, which in turn stimulates additional oil production and makes you feel the need to wash it even more. A tip to have great hair in between washes is to use a dry shampoo. Ask our stylists which one they recommend!

4. Embrace your natural look and avoid the blow dryer, opting to air dry your tresses. With the heat of the summer it’s wise to keep away from excess heat. Even using a hot tool to curl or straighten may cause damage.

5. Condition your hair with a deep conditioning treatment or moisture mask once a week. This will help get that extra moisture back into your hair during the damaging months. A spray in conditioner also will help put hydration back into your hair.

6. Use sunscreen in your hair. One quick way to add some protection is to run your hands lightly through your hair after applying sunscreen to your body.

7. Use a Wet Brush, these are specifically designed for wet hair to gently untangle and manage your tresses. A wide-tooth comb works as well.

Enhance Your Massage Experience with Aromatherapy

Spa Atlantis Team | June 2018

When you get a massage, it’s not just your achy muscles that benefit, there are a whole multitude of benefits that extend beyond the action of massage. Take, for example, the essential oils that are used during your treatment. Did you know that those essential oils are chosen for a specific reason? In the spa industry, those oils are known as aromatherapy, and they are used for physical, psychological, and spiritual well-being. In short, there are amazing benefits to it.

Some of our favorite essential oils to use at Spa Atlantis are Lavender, Eucalyptus, Lemongrass, Peppermint, and Rosemary. 4 Ways a Spa Day at Atlantis Helps to Reduce Stress

Spa Atlantis Team | April 2018

Let’s see a show of hands… do you sometimes experience stress in your life? Okay, hands down. Studies conducted by The American Institute of Stress show us that 77% of Americans regularly experience physical symptoms caused by stress. In 2017 alone, the top cause of stress in the United States was job pressure, including co-worker tension, bosses, and work overload. That’s a big number, and chances are you’re part of the percentage.

To increase public awareness about stress, a group of professionals got together in 1992 and created Stress Awareness Month, which is celebrated every April. Most people will experience stress at some point in their life, and it’s important to learn how to minimize stress, including dedicating time to relaxing. And what’s a better place to relax than in northern Nevada’s only Forbes Four-Star spa, Spa Atlantis?

Here are some ways a spa day could help you manage your stress levels.

  • Get a massage and rid the stress in between muscles and joints while relaxing your mind to a tranquil setting. According to the National Institutes of Health, massage therapy helps relieve muscle tension. A massage therapist uses various techniques to rub, stroke, stretch or apply pressure to the muscles to help them return to a relaxed state, which in turn reduces your stress-related aches and pains.
  • Heat is also a great stress reliever; relaxing in a hot Jacuzzi, Sauna or Herbal steam room soothes aches and pains from arthritis, fibromyalgia and other joint issues. They also help improve blood circulation in the body, which in turn makes you feel relaxed and carefree.
  • Removing toxins and impurities from the skin is a key element in de-stressing your body. An effective way of doing this is by getting a wrap. This is important because the skin is not only the largest organ in the body, but also the first line of defense against environmental toxins. Spa Atlantis offers a number of wraps designed to remove toxins from the skin and detoxify.
  • Getting better sleep is essential to reducing stress. Learn tips and techniques from our massage experts by experiencing our sleep treatment, offered through Longeva. After your treatment, you’ll be sent home with a dream kit to continue the benefits. This treatment can teach you to get a more restful night, and studies consistently show more sleep reduces stress in the body and mind.

Most people will experience stress from time-to-time, but being aware of it, and taking steps to destress is key in minimizing the effects. Let Spa Atlantis be your stress relief!

Check into Wellness on your Next Trip

It’s vitally important to take care of your well-being when you’re traveling. Especially after a flight or long drive, your body and mind can be left feeling dull and drained. It may even cause a variety of symptoms, from dizziness and headache to anxiety, dehydration and confusion.

One of the best things you can do is start your trip off right with a visit to a local spa. Receiving a treatment will help you relax, soothe aching muscles, revitalize tired skin and improve your mood. Here are a few of the ways that a spa visit helps you combat long road trips or flights:

Get a massage. When sitting on an airplane or in a car for many hours, your body has been stuck in one place and may be stiff from not being able to move around much. A massage has restorative benefits to help improve the circulation throughout your body, in addition to soothing tight muscles. Swedish, Hot Stone, Deep Tissue, our one of Spa Atlantis’ locals favorite, the Lomi Lomi, are recommended. Or, experience Spa Atlantis’ newest aromatherapy massage treatment. Combining massage with the calming power of scent, our aromatherapy treatment uses essential oils to create a therapeutic effect, helping to restore equilibrium and eliminate toxins from the body.

Steam and sauna treatments also provide the body with significant benefits by promoting circulation and helping to flush out impurities through sweat. In our Aqua Lounge, you can treat yourself to our hot tubs and a cold plunge. Relax and breathe in our Brine lounge with Chrono therapy. All this will leave you feeling refreshed and restored after a long flight or drive.

Relationship Benefits of a Couple’s Massage

Have you ever considered the benefits of a couple's massage and how they could help your love life?

It’s well-known that massages relieve stress, rejuvenate the body, and relax the mind, but the benefits of a couple's massage go even further than that. In an article on thefashionspot.com, the writer, Elizabeth Mitchell interviewed Stef Saran, a dating expert who talks about the benefits of lying side-by-side with your partner. He said a couple's massage can boost feel-good hormones like affection but that, most noticeably, “…touch increases oxytocin as well as serotonin and dopamine. So basically, a couple's massage is pretty much a scientific love potion.” Where do we sign up?

The benefits of a couple's massage:

  • Help you reconnect. With the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it can be challenging to carve out time for one another. A couple’s massage allows you to enjoy time together, and reconnect in a unique way that is mutually beneficial.
  • Reduce stress. Massages in general have been proven to reduce stress, and having a massage with your partner can extend beyond the massage table and open lines of communication and resolve conflict.
  • Promote affection. As Saran said, massages release feel-good hormones that naturally create a bump in affection.
  • If you’ve never had a couple’s massage and are a little nervous, don’t be! This should be an enjoyable experience while spending time with your loved one. If you’ve been missing out on some quality time together, visit Spa Atlantis and take a break together.

The Importance of the Facial

An unavoidable fact of life is the staggering amount of dirt, grime, pollution and dead skin builds up on the face over time. Having a regular at-home skin routine is extremely important to keep the skin clean, but sometimes it isn’t enough. In order to truly benefit from your at-home skin routine, you also need to regularly see an esthetician, a professional who is trained to help you maintain a healthy complexion. If you’ve never been to an esthetician before, there are a few techniques they will use on your face to improve clarity, tone, and texture. Some of those tools and techniques include:

Deep pore cleaning

  • Using a special tool designed to get dirt out of the deepest pores, a deep cleansing of the skin is vital in improving the overall appearance of the skin without disrupting the skin’s natural barrier function. Only a trained esthetician can do this safely and while balancing the pH, oils and lipids found naturally in the skin.

Professional exfoliation

  • During your facial, the build-up of grime and dirt is exfoliated away, removing the oldest built up cells. Exfoliation allows new healthy cells to emerge, giving your skin a healthy, youthful, fresh look.

Extractions

  • Estheticians use tools to remove dirt that has nestled deep into the pores. During the extraction process, a warm stream of steam will be blown onto your face while your therapist works to remove impurities from the skin using an extraction tool. It is important to see a licensed professional who has been trained on this process, as they know how to handle the skin following extractions based on skin type.

Mask

  • During your treatment, a mask will be applied to your face. These are important because they target specific skin conditions. They can be soothing, calming, moisturizing, purifying, or stimulating and can work in different ways to accomplish the goals you set out to achieve.

Your skin is the largest organ of the body. Taking care of your skin, and especially the skin on your face, is just as important as your diet, exercise, and getting enough sleep. Getting regular facials is suggested to keep your skin looking its best and at Spa Atlantis, highly trained estheticians will work with you to develop a treatment perfect for the results you’re seeking. Make it a New Year’s resolution to book regular facials, and get ready for glowing skin in 2018.

There are many benefits of salt therapy. According to a recent article in Organic Spa Magazine, ancient healers and philosophers recommended salt inhalation for the respiratory system and health problems. The benefits, they say, are wide-ranging. Inhaling salt particles may reduce inflammation and mucus in the lungs, improving respiratory conditions such as asthma, allergies, bronchitis, and even Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. In addition, salt therapy can help reduce stress and headaches, and even provide a boost in energy and improve sleep patterns.

Experience the health benefits of the salty ocean air in the middle of the northern Nevada desert in Spa Atlantis’ Brine Inhalation Light Therapy Lounge. As water trickles over a salt Brine made up of the finest salt from Germany, salt aerosols are released into the air, positively affecting the respiratory system. While breathing deep to experience the healing properties of the salt, a color wheel rotates, providing chromotherapy through the optic nerve. The result is a deeper sense of relaxation and rejuvenation. This journey through the senses can only be experienced at Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno, NV.

To learn more about The Brine Inhalation-Light Therapy Lounge and to book your appointment, please call Spa Atlantis at 775-825-4700.

It's time to talk hair. How many times have you been told, air-drying is best for maintaining healthy hair? I recently learned, shockingly, that air- drying may actually be damaging to your hair.

Let's talk Hair Myths:

Hair Myth #1. Going to bed with wet hair is healthy.
Going to bed with wet hair night after night may lead to.... wait for it… mold growth on your scalp. Your scalp and pillow, exposed to moisture over time, can harbor bacteria and mold, which leads to flaking and dandruff. Did you know that flaky scalp can lead to hair loss? Scalp health is important for healthy hair.

Hair Myth #2. It does not matter how you handle wet hair.
It is better to work with wet hair versus dripping wet hair. Brushing or combing through soggy hair can damage the hydrogen bonds which provide strength and shape.  This can lead to split ends and breakage. Do you vigorously "towel- dry" your hair as you come out of the shower?  Stop! Rubbing your hair will roughen the cuticle and lead to frizzy hair! I have a suggestion: invest in an Aquis, a brand of Aquitex hair towels available at Spa Atlantis.  It is in stock and great for short or long hair. Simply wrap up your wet hair in one of these towels, then go about your morning routine – drink coffee, eat breakfast, put on your makeup and brush your teeth. Remove the turban and you will only need five minutes of blow drying time. Voila, no damage to your hair! No damage equals shine.

Hair Myth #3. It's okay to brush through wet hair.
Not really.  It’s better to use a wide-toothed comb for damp or wet hair, only use a brush on dry hair. Roughly brushing wet hair can cause serious breakage and split ends.

Hair Myth #4. Heat-styling your hair is terrible.
Heat tools can cause damage to your hair, but not if you use the proper hair product before applying heat. You must hydrate and protect your hair before styling. At the Salon at Atlantis pick up Pureology, Colour Fanatic with 100% Vegan ingredients. Spray in your damp hair and it will detangle, preserve your color and protect the texture of your hair while you use hair tools with heat to dry and style your locks.

Shine on, and do not believe the hair myths. See one of our professional stylists for a personalized consultation today! Walk-ins are welcome but we recommend an appointment to ensure your time is available. Please call 775-954-4136.

Looking for a unique spa experience to enjoy with your significant other this upcoming, romantic holiday? February is a wonderful time to spend quality time with your loved one. I recommend The Rasul Ceremonial Chamber at Spa Atlantis. The Terra Sigillata Rasul Ceremony provides a unique and extravagant body treatment for couples you are sure not to find elsewhere. This Arabian cleansing ritual is described as pure, calming and leaves your skin beautifully exfoliated - an added benefit during these cold winter days. You and your partner apply six different healing muds to one another, each specifically designed for a different part of the body. These chakra muds draw toxins from your body and aid in releasing positive energies. Relax as you breathe in the aromatic herbs under the twinkling lights of the ceremonial chamber’s sky and rest in the heated ergonomic seats as the muds do all of the detoxifying work. Your ceremony concludes with a refreshing shower, leaving your skin renewed and silky smooth.

The bitter cold February air and lack of humidity can leave your skin feeling dull. Be sure to keep your skin glowing by exfoliating and moisturizing often during this winter season. Pure Fiji, featured at Spa Atlantis, offers a complete line of products to keep your skin healthy. From the pristine island of Fiji, comes an extraordinary moisturizing body treatment. Coconut sugar rub is an entirely natural skin exfoliating and moisturizing system that will rapidly hydrate and condition your skin. Take the South Pacific home with you and discover the secret to beautiful skin.

Give the gift of Spa Atlantis with a gift certificate. Your loved ones are sure to love you even more!

Happy New Year! It’s that time of year… new beginnings, new goals, and new habits, and even breaking old bad habits… it’s an ideal time to make a list of how to make our lives better! When it comes to health and well-being, I often think of my skin. Because when my skin looks great, I actually feel better! For most of us, having beautiful skin comes with a list of good habits:

  1. You know the old saying… “move it or lose it!” This is actually true, and if you do not use your body, you will indeed lose it. When your heart and lungs are not working efficiently, your joints become stiff, and your muscles will become flabby and weak, and your skin just won’t have the glow it should. So, pick something you love to do, and do it almost every day!

  2. Sleep: Next to eating, good sleep habits are most important! When you are in a deep sleep, your body goes into repair mode, and this includes your skin.

  3. Wash your face before you go to sleep: SO IMPORTANT. Your skin needs time to breathe and repair itself. If you do not, you miss out on the opportunity to use proven night-time power products, that really make a difference and slows down the aging process. Spa Atlantis offers several of these power products that work wonders while you sleep. I recommend June Jacobs Intensive Age Defying Hydrating Serum, which will combat signs of aging. Dr. Spiller Collagen Cream has collagen built in that plumps fine lines while you sleep, and emerginC hydra-repair is filled with vitamins and concentrated plant oils which increase lipid content and hydration in the skin, so that you wake up with a beautiful glow. Want to make a change in your skin care routine? Start by booking an Essential Facial with an esthetician at Spa Atlantis who can customize a new skin routine perfect for your new year.

  4. Stay hydrated! Water is very important, which our body depends on for survival and to function properly. Spice up your water intake by adding fruit. Take your favorite infused water recipe card home with you after your next visit to Spa Atlantis.

  5. Visit your Salon! There is nothing like a manicure and pedicure to make you feel pretty and look polished. Feeling good about yourself boosts your confidence and raises feelings of self-esteem.

  6. Use Sunscreen everyday… this is the #1 anti-aging tip! My favorite everyday sunscreen is June Jacobs Sun Care Advanced Sun Resistance SPF 30 and it’s paraben and preservative free.

Best wishes to you in 2017! It’s never too late to make healthy and positive changes in your life!

Krista Salvati - Spa Salon Manager | December 2016

Of all four seasons, winter is the harshest on our skin. This season should come with a Winter Storm Warning: Cold temperatures in the forecast, dry and rough skin alert! The main culprits are central heating, low humidity and cold air with less moisture than warm air. In particular, maturing skin lacks the ability to produce the same level of moisture which typically results in dry, flaky skin and lack-luster hair. Find the perfect remedy to combat winter’s havoc at Spa Atlantis, with our signature hydrating treatment: Cleopatra Milk and Honey Hydration Wrap. This replenishing experience includes a sugar scrub from Pure Fiji that will regenerate and nourish your skin.

Outshine your holiday décor this season! At Salon Atlantis, we recommend adding the hydrating hair masque upgrade from Moroccanoil, with your next hair service to restore your silky locks. To prevent breakage or other damage, avoid blow-drying and brushing hair when wet, because that is when your hair is most delicate. Here is a tip from one of our professionals: use a wide-tooth comb and few drops of olive oil after washing your hair.

Here are a few more essential tips for your winter regime. Rather than lotion, use Pure Fiji body butter, it has a higher oil content and especially effective on extremely chapped, dry skin. Don’t forget to hydrate from the inside out by drinking at least 64oz of water a day! Eat snacks that hydrate, such as quinoa, brown rice and any foods containing garlic and of course raw veggies!

Be sure to take a little “Spa” home with you for the winter... Here are some suggestions brought to you from the South Pacific made by Pure Fiji, complete with a blend of pure coconut oil and nut extracts infused with tropical flowers to moisturize and protect your skin:

Body Butter – This super moisturizing cream will instantly revive dry skin. A variety of
scents are available.

Exotic Oil – A nourishing blend of coconut oil and exotic nut extracts. Use daily to moisturize, nourish and protect skin and hair.

Coconut Creme Body Scrub – Gently exfoliate and cleanse skin with this foaming creme scrub while pineapple extracts brighten skin tone.

Coconut Milk Bath Soak – This luxuriously smooth and creamy milk bath soak contains a bounty of nutrients essential to support the good health of your skin.

Have trouble drinking enough water? Spa Atlantis provides complimentary recipe cards to
make your own infused water in the comfort of your own home. Try this one out today!

From Spa Atlantis, we wish you Peace and Joy this holiday season!

As the temperature gets cooler outside, your skin care routine may need to be adjusted accordingly. The proper moisturizer for your skin is especially important now. Chilly days and nights, with less moisture in the air, require a customized moisturizer for your skin. This is a great time of year to check with a professional esthetician, as they can evaluate your skin condition and needs, to help lock in the refreshed look we are all looking for this time of year. Start by booking a facial; a complete skin care treatment that cleanses completely and exfoliates without irritation.

Holiday plans should always include a visit to Spa Atlantis. This is a perfect time of year to be a spa-aficionado, relax, reflect, and enjoy some quiet time alone or with friends and family. To ensure you receive the days and times that work best for you and your friends or family, be sure to plan ahead and book your appointments early!

Remember, your skin care routine does not need to end at the spa. You can take the spa home with you to keep up your new radiant look. A well-balanced plan of complete skin care, spa time, healthy eating and exercise, will be the best plan for the best you!

These June Jacobs products are recommended by Spa Atlantis:

Pore Purifying Facial Bath – for deep cleaning pores with a natural antiseptic, tea tree oil rids skin of surface impurities and sloughs off dead skin cells while natural anti-inflammatory willow and pine bark, calms the skin without drying it out.

Radiant Refining Exfoliant Powder – Made with rice, bamboo, papain and salicylic acid… leaves the skin flawless and radiant. It brightens skin with natural ingredients: lemon peel, bearberry root, mulberry root and licorice extracts.

Perfect Pumpkin Peeling Enzyme Mask – this masque has the powerful pumpkin enzyme to digest surface cells, stimulate skin cell turnover to improve skin’s tone and texture. Pumpkin is naturally rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins A and C, as well as zinc, a mineral that aids in the healing process, which work synergistically to rebuild the elasticity of the skin. Great results if used consistently once a week.

Intensive Age Defying Hydrating Complex SPF 25 – this is an anti-aging moisturizer with complete SPF protection. It reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improves elasticity with the smoothing ingredients of rice, soy, algae extracts, elastin and collagen.

From Spa Atlantis, we wish you Peace and Joy this holiday season!

As we transition from summer to fall, it’s time to talk about healing the skin from the summer sun.  At Spa Atlantis, our Fall Spa Features all have one thing in common… and that is antioxidants. September 2016

There are many positives to living in the high desert; namely, wide-open, red- and purple-streaked skies right before sunset, an enviable view of the mysterious Milky Way, and a dry climate with 350+ days of sunshine. While most women prefer dryness versus humidity for their hair, the dry weather can cause a myriad of problems for the skin, making it seem dull and dehydrated.

At Spa Atlantis, we are well-equipped with products to help combat dryness, and one of those products comes from our own backyard – the Black Rock Desert. Located in the same area of Burning Man, a yearly festival that celebrates self-expression and the arts, Black Rock Mud has become a renown for its healing properties. Harvested twice a year, Black Rock Mud is mineral-rich illite clay that has many benefits for the skin including exfoliation, rehydration, and can even help to remove blemishes and imperfections.

During the month of September, we celebrate Burning Man by offering treatments using Black Rock Mud. The treatments include a pedicure, body wrap, or facial. We encourage you to learn about the benefits of mud, and make an appointment today!

August 2016

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, each year there are more new cases of skin cancer than the combined incidence of cancers of the breast, prostate, lung and colon. There is research that shows that the risk of developing skin cancer is directly related to the amount and intensity of ultraviolet light exposure one receives from the sun. In Reno and Tahoe, we enjoy our position at an elevated altitude, and because of that, getting burned can happen more rapidly here than it would at sea level. Thankfully, with regular use of sunscreen, it’s easy to limit excessive UV exposure, lowering your risk of developing skin cancer. But how do you know which one is right for you?

There are two types of sunscreens available. Chemical sunscreen ingredients, such as PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid) and cinnamates, absorbs UV rays and convert the sun’s radiation into heat energy, while physical sunscreens (such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide) deflect and scatter the rays before they penetrate the skin. Both types of protection are effective and proven to reduce sun damage to skin; however, it is essential to choose the form of protection best suited for your skin type.

Not all sunscreens are suitable for every skin type. Children can be sensitive to chemical sunscreens. We would recommend a physical block for children that contains zinc oxide and titanium oxide, making sure the label says it’s formulated for sensitive skin. People with rosacea, acne, or who are allergy prone would also benefit from a fragrance-free and preservative-free sunscreen. The most important factor is making sure your sun protection is broad spectrum, meaning it effectively protects against both ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) ranges of the light spectrum. Most broad-spectrum formulas contain multiple sunscreen ingredients. For extended, intense exposure to the sun, you should use a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. SPF 30 filters out up to 97 percent of the sun’s UV radiation, compared to SPF 50 which filters out up to 98 percent. And of course follow the direction on the label for reapplying. At Spa Atlantis, we have several sunscreens to choose from, and our expert estheticians would be more than happy to assist you in selecting the perfect one to keep your skin protected this summer.

The eyes are often referred to as the windows to the soul. Did you know the skin around the eye is very thin as it does not have a fatty tissue layer? In fact, the skin around the eye is so delicate and thin there are very few oil glands, causing this area to be drier than the rest of our skin. The dryer the skin the more visible the wrinkles become. Eye creams are a woman’s best friend to combat early signs of aging. Selecting the proper eye cream is essential. Having a good eye regime for morning and night is highly recommended. Consider eye creams with ingredients that target your specific concerns. If your concern is dryness select a product rich in avocado oils, vitamin E and/or Shea butter as these are all natural moisture infusing ingredients. If you are experiencing puffiness you should select an eye cream rich in caffeine from teas and other herbal ingredients. Caffeine is proven to calm puffiness and reduce inflammation. Spa Atlantis is proud to introduce new copper Tibetan singing bowls, now available in the retail reception area. Tibetan Singing Bowls are excellent meditative and therapeutic healing tools. Healing with Tibetan Singing Bowls is a scientifically proven modality and has gained a strong following in Europe, the Orient and United States in the last few decades. Sound massage and singing bowls improves mental clarity and emotional stability, increases physical energy and relieves muscle tension. There are various immediate effects that you may experience such as improved sleep patterns, increased energy as well as enhanced creativity.

Using singing bowls for healing is based on the idea that a human body possesses a different resonant frequency. The body is healthy when every cell and organ resonates in harmony. When energy flow in the body is inhibited, the affected area vibrates out of tune, causing illness. The sound frequencies created by the signing bowls restore the flow of energy and bring about a state of well-being.

At Spa Atlantis, Earth Day is not merely one day of the year. We work year round with many local organizations to help raise environmental awareness, and work closely with our vendors to reduce our carbon footprint. Through Spa Atlantis’ partnership with Emergin-C Skin Care and Plan-It 2020, we were able to help fund the planting of 416 viable, indigenous trees in 2015. And that’s not all. We proudly carry Aveda products in Salon Atlantis, whose philosophy is to preserve natural resources and do so with sustainable products. In both Salon Atlantis and Spa Atlantis, guests will find natural, yet effective ingredients.

Spa Atlantis is proud to be the first and only northern Nevada Forbes Travel Guide Four Star spa. Forbes Travel Guide inspects over 1000 properties each year in search of the best hotels, restaurants and spas in the world. Come celebrate Earth Day with us and experience the difference of a Four Star rated facility!

I have some very exciting news to share! Due to popular demand, we have expanded our service options and added an additional SoftPak system to our exclusive Hammam treatment room! Why is this so exciting? Well, we are the only spa in northern Nevada that offers this exclusive body treatment option, and are now able to accommodate more guests. The room itself is absolutely stunning, and the Hammam ritual is luxurious and beneficial to the whole being. Guests lie on a SoftPack for the entire treatment as our therapists apply rich products to the skin that revives and refreshes. The table is heated, as well, allowing guests to melt into ultimate relaxation as warm water cascades over the body.

To celebrate the arrival of our new SoftPack, our talented team has designed three new treatments specifically for the Hammam rooms. New body scrubs, scents and specifically formulated products complement the Hammam perfectly. The treatments will refresh and rejuvenate, as well as provide an additional level of luxury that Spa Atlantis is known for offering.

When is the last time you did something special with your significant other? Why not look outside of the typical dinner and a movie date and switch it up with an activity that improves both the mind and the body? I’m talking about the spa, of course! And with February being the month of love, I invite you to indulge in a couples spa treatment and reconnect and rejuvenate together.

Voted SpaFinders’ “Top Spa for Romance,” my team at Spa Atlantis goes above and beyond to plan a special day for you and your significant other. Start with side-by-side massages, followed by a relaxing soak in our infinity soaking tub for two. Afterward, spend time in any of our three co-ed lounges, designed to provide true health benefits, like the Brine Inhalation Light Therapy lounge, whose atmosphere is designed to mimic that of an ocean shore, improving respiration. Following your time spent in the relaxation lounges, retire to our year-round indoor atrium pool, and dine on a specially-designed spa menu, created to nourish the body following time spent in the spa.

I invite you to rekindle your spark at Spa Atlantis!

What’s your New Year’s resolution? If you’re like the majority of people, it’s to eat healthier, exercise consistently, or work on ways to reduce stress.

Did you know that the path to accomplishing your goals can be found at a spa? It’s true! Studies have shown that a 60-minute massage can lead to a reduction in the level of cortisol (a stress hormone) found in the blood. Also, massage can decrease proteins related to inflammation and allergic reactions, and have demonstrated a boost in white blood cells that fight infection. Imagine! All of that happening while you’re encouraged to just lie back and relax on a massage table.

There are many different kinds of spas. Some are medical spas, some are fitness-focused facilities, and then there’s Spa Atlantis, a spa dedicated to the wellness of the whole being. While we want our guests to feel indulgent, we also want them to know that we are concentrating on more than just beautification and relaxation (though that’s definitely a part of it!). Spa Atlantis offers treatments that promote health, well-being, introspective thinking, and relaxation, as well as a sanctuary that provides an escape from day-to-day stresses.

A visit to Spa Atlantis allows you the opportunity to speak to experts in their field, who provide guidance and advice on ways to accomplish your health goals, and adding a regular appointment will help you achieve your goals even faster.

Take care of yourself, and make visiting Spa Atlantis a priority in 2016.
