Art Meets Pavement at Reno Chalk Art Festival
RENO, NEV. – Pastel chalk paintings come to life at the Reno Chalk Art Festival, an inaugural Artown event presented by Atlantis Casino Resort Spa.
Using pavement for canvas, juried artists – amateur and professional – will descend on the Biggest Little City on July 9 and 10 to make their mark by transforming 9x12-foot parking spaces in Atlantis’ West Parking Lot into works of art. The competition runs from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. both days. Three professional chalk artists known as Madonnari will also create their own masterpieces. The top chalk artists will be recognized during an awards ceremony on July 10 at 5 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for Best of Show, Best Reproduction of a Master’s Work, Best Use of Color, Best 3D, and Artists’ Choice.
The community is invited to enjoy two art-filled days enjoying whimsical chalk art, bites from local food trucks and live entertainment from Reno-based jazz guitarist John Ponzo, and Jeremy Cornwell, an acoustic artist with rock, jazz and funk influences.
